NFL schedule: Philadelphia Eagles host Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 in primetime

ESPN’s NFL coverage begins tonight with the Week 1 primetime game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. Cowboys won the fans-voiced 2017 showdown 44-23 in Philadelphia – a game that featured 80 combined points – and moved on to win Super Bowl LI in Houston. NBC’s broadcasters are Cris Collinsworth and Mike Tirico in the booth.

The Eagles and Cowboys both have new coaching staffs, and a new quarterback, with Carson Wentz leading Philly and Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott leading Dallas. Prescott was 18 of 27 for 244 yards and two TDs in the last meeting between the teams and has a club-record 210 rushing yards against the Eagles to go with a 105.4 passer rating. Wentz, the hero of the team’s Wild Card win over the Minnesota Vikings, is poised to follow in Tony Romo’s footsteps and make early in-season starts after AJ McCarron faltered in his debut last season.

Collinsworth has brought his golden touch to NBC with intense play-by-play work on the football docudrama series Hard Knocks. He’s also a football commentator who’s a little sick of talking about a lot of different things in a game so he’s not sure which football to talk about during a broadcast. Tirico will be tight with Collinsworth to steer the game, and can be seen on Sunday Night Football in the middle of the NBC booth that features Chris Collinsworth and Rodney Harrison. And, I’m curious to hear Todd McFarlane’s week-three animation for ESPN.
